WALTERS HAS TWO SENATORS TAKEN IN BASEBALL'S AMATEUR DRAFT

Major League Baseball held their annual Amateur Draft this week.  A total of 103 junior and community college players were taken in the draft which also included tow Walters State Senators.  Alex Haynes, a right handed pitcher, was taken in the 15th round by the Colorado Rockies, and Corey Stone, a left handed pitcher, was taken in the 26th round by the Texas Rangers.

Haynes, a sophomore from Knoxville (TN), appeared in 17 games this season for the Senators which included 16 starts.  He had a 2.50 ERA  with a 9-2 record.  He had 114 strikeouts in 82.2 innings worth of work.  He surrendered 52 hits and 32 runs, 23 of which were earned.  Opponents amassed only .19 batting average during the season.

Stone, also a sophomore from Prosperity (SC), had a 2.59 ERA in 15 appearances.  All 15 appearances were starts where he amassed a 9-2 record.  He ahd 66 strikeouts in 73 innings pitched.  He allowed 48 hits and 33 runs, of which 21 were earned.  Opponents managed .185 batting average.
