The Cleveland State Cougars watched as the NJCAA selected them as the #24 seed going into next week's national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. The broadcasters proclaimed them as the "cinderella" team of the tourney based on their 15-15 record and claiming the Region VII Champhionship as a #7 seed. Their opponent for the first round will be Casper College out of Wyoming. They will play on Monday, March 18, at noon CST.
Casper will enter the tournament with a 32-2 recrod after winning the REgion IX Championship this past week. As a team, they averaged 101.4 points a game while limiting their opponents to 73.6 points. They shoot 52.4% of their shots from the field which includes 38.4% from behind the 3-point line. They were 73.9% from the free throw line. They have five players which averaged double figures during the season.
As mentioned, the Cougars will enter the tournament with a 15-15 record. They averaged 72.2 points per game this season while holding their opponents to 71.6 points. They shot 41.7% from the field which included 30.3% from behind the 3-point line. They were 66.4% from the free throw line. They are led by double digit scorers Dalanion Walker (16.4) and Jonathan King (12.8).
The Tournament is held in Hutchinson, Kansas, starting Monday (March 18) and running through Saturday (March 23). Games will be live streamed through NJCAATV.
