LADY TIGERS RECEIVE #11 SEED; TO FACE TEMPLE IN FIRST ROUND

The Chattanooga State softball found out Friday afternoon that they had received the #11 seed for the upcoming NJCAA Division I Softball Championship being held at the Canyons Complex in St. George, Utah starting on May 22.  They will face #6 seed Temple (TX) in the first round at 7:30pm MT.  

The Lady Tigers will go in as the Region VII and District F Champs and possess a 42-8 record so far this year which includes four straight wins in the region tournament this past week at Columbia State.  Their opponents have an overall record of 46-9 which includes their Region V North and District D Championship.

Chattanooga has a team batting average of .336 which is led by Haley Smith at .451.  She has 20 doubles, a triple, and nine home runs to go with 55 RBIs.  Ashlyn Holland has a .399 batting average with 16 doubles, a triple, and 13 home runs and has driven in 60 runs.  As a team, they have scored 351 runs which averages out to a little over seven runs a game.  Smith and Breanna Vinson have accounted for 95 as Smith has scored 48 times while Vinson has 47 from her leadoff spot.

Brooke Parrott anchors the pitching staff with 27 appearances this year.  The TCCAA Pitcher of the Year 19-2 record with 2 saves this season.  She has thrown 149 2/3 innings with an ERA of 2.29.  She has 176 strikeouts compared to only 51 walks.  Abby Wall will also be counted on as she picked up two saves in relief in the tournament.  She has a 2.37 ERA with 47 strikeouts and 14 walks in  62 innings this year.

Temple hit .388 as a team this season with 44 home runs and 486 runs scored.  Their team ERA is 3.30 and are currently on a 14 game winning streak.
