The Chattanooga State softball team went 1-2 this week in the 2019 NJCAA DI Softball Championship in St. George, Utah. The Lady Tigers were seeded #11 going into the tournament and finished the season with an overall record of 43-10.
Chattanooga faced #6 Temple in the first round of the tournament. Temple would score in every inning as they posted an 8-0 win over the Lady Tigers. Chattanooga would manage only four hits in the contest with Breanna Vinson, Katie Cheeseman, Haley Smith, and Mary Kate Pritchett each with a single hit. Brooke Parrot absorbed the loss as she went four innings, surrendering five runs.
They would bounce back in the next game as they would defeat #15 seed Lake Land 8-3 in the loser's bracket. They would score at least a run in five of their six innings with 10 hits for the game. Smith and Lauren Hamby each would have multiple hits as Smith would have three singles while Hamby would deliver a single and a double. Hamby would knock in two runs. Madison Crabtree would have a three run home run in the conest. Parrott would get the win as she went five innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Abby Wall would go the last two innings, surrendering only one hit with two strikeouts.
Indian Hills, seeded #13, would end Chattanooga's run as they defeated them 11-9. The Lady Tigers would have eight hits in the game with Vinson, Crabtree, and Hamby each delivering two hits. Crabtree would knock in five runs wit a double and a home run. Wall would take the loss as she went 2 2/3 innings. Parrot would come in relief to finish out the game. Only seven of Indian Hilss runs were earned as Chattanooga had three errors in the game.
