COLUMBIA STATE SOCCER CROWNED NJCAA REGION VII CHAMPS

The Columbia State soccer team saved the best for the postseason as they were crowned the 2019 NJCAA Region VII Champions thanks to two shutout victories on consecutive days.  The Lady Chargers were seeded third in the tournament, but ousted second seed Southwest Tennessee 2-0 in a semifinal on Thursday.  Then, they held first seed Motlow State scoreless for the championship tilt and won 1-0.  Tiegan Clausen scored the lone goal in the finals and was the MVP of the tournament.  They now advance to St Louis where they will compete in the Central District of the NJCAA for a chance to advance to the national tournament.

In the championship match, Clausen would score five minutes into the second half and the Lady Charger defense would make it stand up for the rest of the match.  Clausen was also in the two goals scored in the semifinal as she scored a goal as well as assisting on a goal by Makenna Gebhard.  Columbia and Motlow had split their regular season matches this season with the Lady Chargers taking the final two competitions by identical 1-0 finals.
