WALTERS STATE WINS REGION VOLLEYBALL CROWN

The NJCAA Region VII Volleyball Tournament was held at Cleveland State Community College this past weekend.  The Lady Senators of Walters State were crowned the 2018 champions after a 3-1 victory over Chattanooga State by the scores of 25-15, 22-25, 25-12, and 25-7.  With the championship, Walters advances to the District O championship where they will face Wake Technical in a quarterfinals on Friday, November 2 as the #3 seed in the tournament.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Kaley Muncy paced the Lady Senators in the contest with 16 kills, 7 solo blocaks and assisting on four other blocks.  The Lady Senators jumped out eraly in the first set, but Chattanooga would continue to fight back.  A late surge would give Walters the victory.  The second set proved to be a see saw affair with both teams swapping the lead throughout.  The lady Tigers would use a 6-3 run to close out to tie the match.  

The third set was close at the outset, but Walters would go on a run that expanded to a dozen points before claiming the victory.  The Lady Senators kept up the attack at the outset of the fourth set, and never looked back in claiming their second straight Region VII championship.

Chattanooga had advanced to the championship match by the way of 3-0 win  over Cleveland State on Friday evening.  Kayla Wimpee and Sakari pack led the way for the Lady Tigers as they took the match by scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-23.

The District O Championship will be held at Lenoir Community College in Kinston, NC.
