WALTERS VOLLEYBALL HEADED TO NATIONALS

WALTERS VOLLEYBALL HEADED TO NATIONALS

For the first time since the inception of volleyball at Walters State, they are making their first trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.  They moved on by defeating Fayetteville Tech in the NJCAA Southeast District B Championship in convincing fashion in a 3-0 sweep.  They defeated their guests by scores of 25-20, 25-12, and 25-17.

The Lady Senators improve their overall record this year to 18-1 which included a "perfect" slate at home as they went 10-0 in matches and 30-0 in total sets played.

The match started out slowly for the Lady Senators as they trailed by as many as seven points in the first set.  They would take the lead at 14-13, but would take it for good at 17-16 in taking the first set.  The second set wasn't close as the Lady Senators went from a 6-5 lead to a 19-6 margin before closing out the set.  Fayetteville came out in the third set to take an 8-3 lead, but Walters took the lead at 14-13 and finished out the set to win their chance at history.

The National Tournament is scheduled for April 13-15 in Cedar Rapids (IA) at the Alliant energy Powerhouse Arena.  Seeding for the 16 teams qualified for the tournament and matchups will be announced once all 16 districts have concluded.
