WALTERS STATE WALKS IT OFF IN FIRST ROUND OF NJCAA WORLD SERIES
Walters State scored in every inning of their first round matchup in the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series, but it would take run socring sacifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Seminole State (OK) 16-15 o Saturday morning.
The Senators secured the #4 seed going into the tournament. They would put up two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-3 lead. Three runs in the bottom of the fourth would give them a 9-3 cushion, but Seminole broke through with six runs in the top of the fifth to tie the contest. They would take the lead in the bottom of the inning and pull out to a 15-11 advantage going into the ninth inning. Again Seminole would tie the score with four runs in the top of the ninth to knot the score at 15 going into the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Drew Blalock would lead the game off with a single. Brady Dalton would step in as a pinch runner, and move up to second on a failed pickoff atempt. With one out, Miles Shore hit a ball deep between right field and center field. The Seminole mad an amazing catch, but Dalton was able to tag up from second, and didn't stop until he slid across home plate for the winning run.
The Senators had eighteen hits in the contest led by Miles Shore with five hits which included a home run and three doubles. Holden Pantier had a home run and two doubles for three hits. Kenny Cox also had three hits while Kole Fenton joined Blalock with two hits. Fenton had a home run and a double. Shore had four RBIs while Pantier, Blalock, and Cox each had two in the game. Pantier scored five times in the game while Fenton and Shored scored three times and Blalock score twice.
Lane Sharp (4-3) gpot the win in the game as he came in relief in the ninth inning. He gave up two hits ad one earned run. Major Osbolt got the start and went the first 4 and 1/3 innings. He gave up seven hits, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) with three walks and four strikeouts.
Next up for the Senators is Johnson County Community College. Johnson is the #1 seed in the tournament and defeated Harford Community College 19-2 on Saturday. Game time for their matchup is Monday with an 8pm EDT start time.
