SENATORS DRAW #10 SEED; FACE SOUTH GEORGIA IN FIRST ROUND
The Walters State Senators received the news on Monday that they had received the #10 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship to be held in Hutchinson (KS) starting on March 21st at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. They will face South Georgia State on the 22nd at 3:30pm EDT.
The Senators currently stand at 30-1 on the season with a national ranking of 13th in the latest national poll. They have averaged 100.5 points per game as they have connected on 55.8% of their shots from the field which includes connecting on 41.4% of those beyond the three-point line. They shoot 69.0% from the free throw line and average 42.5 rebounds a game. They are team oriented with 24.5 assists a game. On the defensive side of the ball, they have averaged 11.9 steals and 4.6 blocks a game.
Offensively, they have six players averaging double figures for the season. Jamar Livingston tops the list as he averages 13.1 points a contest. He is followed by Da'Mori Lytch (12.5), Brian Carter (12.2), Taquez Butler (12.1), Carter Webb (11.4), and Tyrese Stovall (10.2). Butler leads the team as he averages 4.6 assists a game. Carter is next at 3.4 a game and Malaki Brooks follow him at 3.3 a contest. Livingston averages 2.4 a game, and Lytch dishes out two a game.
Lytch is the team's top rebounder at 6.4 boards a game. Stovall and Jayden Nesbitt are close behind at 6.2 a contest. Carter pulls down five rebounds a game. Butler (1.8) and Livingston (1.6) lead the teams in steals. Nesbitt leads the team with 1.8 blocks a game while Lytch and Stovall average 0.8 a contest.
South Georgia State was the NJCAA Region XVII Champion. They currently sit 23-10 overall for the year. They average 79.2 points a game. They shoot 48.7% from the field which includes connecting on 33.8% of their three point attempts. They shoot 69.6% from the free throw line. They avarage 38.6 rebounds a game with 18.6 assists a contest. Defensively, they average 11.8 steals and 3.4 blocks a game.
