ARIZONA WESTERN ENDS VOL STATE'S SEASON 4-2
The Volunteer State softball team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday as they dropped their elimination game against Arizona Western by a 4-2 final. With the loss, the Pionneers end their season with a 51-16 overall record.
Arizona Western scored three runs in the first two innings before Vol struck back with a single run in the top of the third inning. The score would stay 3-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Western added an insurance run. The Pioneers would scratch out a run in the top of the seventh and had the tying runs on base, but couldn't get plate another run ending the threat.
The Pioneers had eight hits in the game. Mallie Grizzle and Maddie Shinton each had two hits in the game. Maddie Goad would have an RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Alyssa Dixon with the first run while Abby Murrill would score the second run on a passed ball. Dixon had the only etra base hit as she laced a double in the third inning.
Gracyn Nealon (13-4) took the loss for Volunteer. She started and went the 2 1/3 innings, surrendering three earned runs on six hits. She would walk two and strieout two in the contest. Kaitlyn Davis came on in relief and went the final 3 2/3 innings. She gave up one earned run on three hits with one strieout.
