WAlters State and Columbia State will meet for the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament as both aedvaqnced with wins on Monday. Walters took care of business in the first game by defeating Motlow by a 73-46 final. The second semi took two overtimes as Columbia advanced 77-73 over Cleveland.
WALTERS 73 - MOTLOW 46
Walters would outsxcore Motlow in every quarter as they continuously built on their lead throughout the game. They would end the day connecting on 27 of 62 (43.5%)shots from the field. They also outrebounded their opponents 45-27.
Nyjah Gibbs would lead a quartet of scorers in double digits with 18 points. She was followed by Terryauna Griffin with 16 points. Anaya Mulholland-Natt would add 11 points and Maqlon Smith contributed ten in the game. Gibbs would lead her squad with 14 rebounds.while Malon Smith and Reagan Starks each grabbed eight boards. Smith would dish out five assists and collect three steals. Maliah Wulcox would lead the team with four steals.
Alicia Davis was the on Motlow player to reach double figures with 18 points. Emma Sazanov would be next with seven points. Ayan Ali pulled down seven rebounds while Sable Winfree and Sazanov each collected five boards. Davis and Ayan Ali would each have two assists in the contest, and Winfree would collect four steals.
COLUMBIA 77 - CLEVELAND 73
In the closest game of the day, Cleveland looked like a team on a mission as they exploded out to a 32-13 lead by the half. Columbia would get most of the deficit back in the third quarter as Cleveland held a slim 43-40 lead after three quarters. The score was tied late in both regulatrion and the first overtime, but both teams missed opportunities to win the game. Columbia would secure the win the second overtime on two free throws with less than ten seconds to go.
For Columbia, they were led by Niana Hill with 33 points. Lily Melton added 20 in the game while Sanaa Bailey contributed 17 for the day. Both Hill ans Bailey would record double-doubles as Hill led with 15 rebounds while Bailey pulled down ten in the game. Melton would lead the team with three steals and six steals. Bailey would have five steals and Hill would finish with four on the day.
Macie Collins would lead Cleveland with 22 points. Kennedy Baker and Mar'Nazha Houston would both finish in double figures with 14 points each. Houston would lead the team with 17 rebounds followed by Sloan Pender with eight and Collins collecting seven in the contest. Kayla Lopez and Pender both have six assists in the game. Baker would have four steals in the game while Pender, Lopez, and Collins would have three apiece. Houston would finish the night with two blocks.
