LADY SENATORS SEES SEASON END IN QUARTERFINALS

Walters Staate saw their season come to end on Friday as they were defeated in the quarterfinals by New Mexico JC 65-56.  The Lady Senators see their season end with an overall record of 28-3.

In an evenly matched game, both teams held leads in the first half with New Mexico holding a 32-29 advantage at the half.  They would push the lead to six at 48-42 by the en of the third quarter.  Walters would start strong in the fourth and would take a brief lead at 50-48.  With the score tied at 52, New Mexico would take the lead for good with 2:26 left to play.  The Lady Senators would only manage to hit two free throws and a jump shot as the Thunderbirds would seal the win with a 13-4 run down the stretch.

Walters would only connect on 20 of 63 shots (31.7%) from the field which included 5 of 25 (20.0%) from three-point range.  They hit on 11 of 12 (91.7%) free throws in the game.  New Mexico outrebounded them by a slim 39-38 margin.  

Four Lady Senators reached double digits in the game led by Nyjah Gibbs with 14 points.  Malon Smith and Terryauna Griffin followed with 12 points each.  Reagan Starks would finish the game with ten.  

Starks would lead the squad with 11 rebounds for a double-double.  Smith wqould finish the game with nine while Gibbs had eight boards.  Smith led the team with five assists and four steals.  Griffin, Anaya Mulholland-Natt, and Maliah Wilcox each had two assists.  Griffin and Wilcox each had two steals.
