It was status quo in the first three games in the quarterfinals of the men's tournament on Saturday as the top seeds won in the first three game of the day. The final game of the dqay saw the #11 seed Southwest Tennessee continue their Cinderella run as they defeated #3 seed Roane State 70-67 on a buzzaer beater. In the other gameas, top seed Walters State defeated Vol State 94-63, #2 seed Columbia State beat Dyersburg State 74-59, and Chattanooga State won 86-72 over Motlow State.
WALTERS 94 - VOLUNTEER 61
In the first game, the top seed Senators came out and built a double digit lead early in the first half. They would almost double uyp their opponents as they led 46-24 at the end of the half. The seond half was played more evenly between the two squads.
Walters had five players reach double figures led by Taquez Butler, Jamar Livingston, and Brian Carter who each scored 18 points. Jayden Nesbitt finished the game with 13 points while Carter Webb added 11 in the contest. Carter and Tyrese Stovall led the team with seven rebounjds and Nesbitt claimed six boards. Trae Rideau was the leader with four assists as well as Nesbitt and Malaki Brooks with three each. Nesbitt led with three steals and Livinmgston adding two in the game.
For Volunteer, they were led by Auden Slaughter with 23 points. Cannon Hale added nine in the game. Slaughter also led the teqam with five rebounds followed by Demeriss Carroll with four boards. Slaughter and MJ Gibbs were each credited with an assist. Carroll had two steals in the contest.
CHATTANOOGA 86 - MOTLOW 72
Chattanooga took control of the game in the first half as theyy built a 40-26 lead by intermission. In the second half, they would build on that lead only to see Motlow cut into their deficit late in the game, but never got the game back into single digits.
For Chattanooga, they had four scorers reach double figures led by Odell Bradley IV withg 20 points. He was followed by Nicholas Long with 19 in the game. Lndon Bryant would chip in with 12 while Noah Holloway added 11 points. Kaden Young and Agbo Abonna led the team with seven rebounds along with six rebounds from Bryant and Long. Azavier Zaqnders and Holloway each had three assists. Jamariion Palm had two steals and Long had three blocks in the game.
Motlow had three reach double figures in the game with Xavier Ferrell dropping in 14 points. Bryson Johnson and Colton Wilbanks each dropped in 12 points in the contest. Wilbanks led the team with seven rebounds while Sagna Ousseynou grabbed seven in the game. Wilbanks led the team with three assist and two steals while Farrell had two blocks.
COLUMBIA 74 - DYERSBURG 59
In another game where the high seed took control of the game from the outset. Columbia would build a 20-point lead by the halftime break at 44-24. Dyersburg would make rujs to cut into the lead, but couldn't get over the hump to mount a challenge.
Jamison Glass, Tyren Fisher, and Taveon Comage each scored 14 points in leading the way for Columbia. Glass and Fisher wer also the leading reboujnders with seven apiece. Fisher also led the team with four assists. Nate Malosa, Murray Norman, JD Claybrook, and Comage each had a steal in the game. Malosa had three blocks in the game.
Dyersburg had three players reacdh double figures led by Bryce Scurlrk and Elijah Causly wjho each had 13 points. Emmanuel Okogie finished with ten markers. Deston Christian led with eight rebounds. Scurlark and Causly each finished with six boards. Christiand and Isaiah Claybrooks led the team with three assists. Christian also led the team with three steals.
SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE 70 - ROANE 67
In the most exciting matchup of the night, it took the full 40 minutes to decide the outcome of the game. With 6.7 seconds left, Roane's Mike Carpenter drove and made a bank shot to tie the game at 67 with.7 seconds left. Southwest's Jeremiah Hayes would receive the inboiunds pass and drill a three pointer at the buzzer for the winner.
Kody Hickerson led the way for Southwest wqith 16 points. Eric Jones was next with 12 points followed by Abdoul Sacko with 11 in the game. Hayes would round out the doube digit scorers with ten. Hickerson would lead with seven rebounds while Sacko had six in the game. Hayes would lead the team with three assists. Jones hd fiveq steals in the game.
Roane was led by Carpenter with 19 points. Jordan Hamiltoin was also in double figures with 12 points. Adonai Mussie led the team with ten rebounds followed by DaShawn Hall-Johnson with six boards. Mussie and Towan Siler each had three assists. Carpenter had two steals while Kenny Greenling had two blocks in the game.
SEMI FINALS SET
The semi finals are set for Monday starting at noon. The first game will see top seed Walters State taking on Chattanooga State. ?The 2pm game will have Columbia State facing Southwest Tennessee/
