The quarterfinals of the women's side of the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament was played on Sunday. The semi finals have been set as top seed Walters State will face Motlow State in the first one by virtue of an 81-51 win over Pellissippi Starte. Motlow advanced as they eliminated Jackson State by an 83-66 finals. The seond semi will see Cleveland State facing Columbia State. Cleveland, the 7th seed, defeated #2 seed Dyerswburg State 58-53, and Columbia advanced by defeating Chattanooga State by a 72-53 final.
WALTERS 81 - PELLISSIPPI 51
In the first game of the day, Walters came out firing as they ran out to a 23-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. Pellissippi would make a run in the third quarter, but Walters put the game out of reach by oustscoring Pellissippi 22-3 in the fourth quarter.
Walters had three players reach double figures led by Nyjqah Gibbs with 22 points. Terryauna Griffin dropped in 12 points while Regan Starks finished with ten. Four other Lady Senators finished with seven points as everyone got in on the action. Gibbsw also led the team with 15 rebounds and Starks finished with ten boards. Malon Smith led the teama with eight assists and four steals. Maliah Wilcox also had four steals. Starks also had three blocks in the game.
Pellisswippi was led by Maiya Moore with 15 points. Ellie Linx also reached double digits with 12 points. Lins, Autumn Crick, and Allecia Pollard each had five rebounds to leaqad their team. Moore had three assists in the game while Crick had three steals. Karley Hunt and Linx each had two stealws in the contest.
MOTLOW 83 - JACKSON 68
The second game started out highlhy competitive as both teams had leads in the firswt twenty mminutes. Motlow would hold a five-point lead at the break. They would build on that lead, and pull away by outscoring Jackson 45-33 in the second half.
For Motlow2, they were led by Anaam Ali with 28 points. Ayan Ali and Sable Winfree also reached double digits with 21 and 20 points.Anaam Ali would lead the team with nine rebounds, and she was supported by Katie Fletcher and Alicia Davis with eight boards. Davis would lead her squad with eight assists with Winfree dishing out five in the game. Ayan Ali had four steals to go with four assists on the day.
Jacksdon was led by Hannah Johnson with 23 points. Holly Bartholewmew added 14 and Marshawna Rdiley had ten in the game. Johnson finished with 14 rebounds, and Ridley had nine to lead the team. Sara Batts and Brooklyn Spates each had tewo assists. Johnson and Batts each had three steals. Ridley was credited with blocks in the game.
CLEVELAND 58 - DYERSBURG 53
In the next game,the first quarter saw both teams take leads before Dyersburg would hit free throws to be up 18-17 at the end of the first ten minutes. In the second quarter, Dyersburg would open and maintain a four point lead for most of the quarter, but the ladies would cut it to two 33-31, at the break. The Cougars would take the lead with three minutes to go in the third quarter, and hold a one point advantage at the end of the quarter. They would outscore their opponents 13-9 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
For Cleveland, Kennedy Baker and Macie Collinsl ed the squad with each scoring 13 points. Dixon would lead the team with 13 rebounds. Sloan Pender had sewven rebounds while Collins and Houston each finished with five in the contest. Kayla Lopez would lead the team with two assists, and Collins would lead with six steals.
Dyersburg had two players in doubke figures led by Rebecca Wood with 15 points and Kelvia Campbell with 12 in the game. Wood would lead the squad with seven rebounds and Morgan Williams addeing six boards. Wood would have three assists and three steals to lead the team while Campbell also had two steals.
COLUMBIA 72 CHATTANOOGA 53
In the final game of the night, a close game at the end of the first quarter saw Columbia create some seperation byt outscoring Chattanooga 17-7 in the second quarter. Chattanooga would make runs in the seond half, but Columbia fought off each challenge by hoitting crucial shots late in the game.
Columbia was led by Sanaa Bailey and Lily Melton who each had 21 points in the game. Malaya @Woullared would come off the bench to add 12 points in the contest. Nianna Hill would grab 11 rebounds to lead the team. She was followed by Bailey with swix boards. Emma Sharp and Hill eac had four assists in the game while Melton had three steals. Hill and Basiley each had two steals in the contest.
Layla Bouldin led Chattanoogqa with 18 points. Akya Woods also had double figures as she finished the game with 12 points. Savannah McDonald led the team with six rebounds while Bouldin and Kimora Currie each finished with five in the game. Bould had three assists and three steals to lead in those categories. McDonald also had tow steals.
