PELLISSIPPI WINS REGION VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Pellissippi State won their first ever NJCAA Region VII Volleyball Championship on Saturday afternoon as they defeated top seed Cleveland Staate 3-1 in the championship match.  The Panthers would win the first two sets 25-21 & 25-17 bfore the Cougars would win the third set 25-19.  In the final set, Pellissippi would never trail as they scored the final six points for a 25-19 win.  Pellissippi's Miley Presnell wass named the MVP of the tournament.

For the Panthers, they were 55 of 184 on attacks for a .190 kill percentage.  Leading the way was Presnell with 14 kills.  Yevdokiya Glushchenko was next with 12 kills.  Saanna Anderson had nine kills while Emma Kate Pierce and Natalie Knight had eight each.  Devyn Dunn led the team with 40 assists.  Dunn also had four aces on serve with Anderson and Grayson Jones had two apiece.  

Jones led the team with 32 digs.  Glushchenko was next with 20 followed by Dunn and Addison Dietz with thirteen.  Morgan Brown would finish with ten.  Pierce would finish with a solo block and four block assists while Glushchenko finished with three block assists.

For the Cougars, they were 50 of 183 on their attacks for a .148 kill  percentage.  Zowee dillard led the way with 17 kills followed by Aaliyah Rodgers with 13 in the match.  Elanee Cotter would finish with seven kills.  Piper Bowers led the way with 44 assists.  Bowers also had two service aces in the contest.

Rodgers would lead the team with 22 digs.  She was followed by Isabella Messer with 20 followed by Bowers and Dillard with 14 each.  Megan Crocker also had ten on the day.  Kennedy Caudill and Rodgers each had a solo block and three assissts in the match.  Carloine Church finished with a block and two assists. 

Both teams will advance to the Southeast District which will be hosted by Pellissippi State on Friday, November7.  Cleveland State will face Region X Champion Davidson-Davie Community College in one match while Pellissippi State will face Region X Runner-up Fayetteville Tech Community College.  Game times have yet to be determined.
